Remembering Max
For all of us in the Maggini Quartet feelings of sadness at losing a treasured friend are mingled with gratitude and a sense of immense privilege at having been able to work with one of the greatest musicians of our time. It was clear to us that Max was by any standards a genius, a musician of exceptionally broad interests, fluent in several languages and possessing a vast knowledge of literature, history, art and architecture, all of which served his complex music. Max shared his humanity, intellect, passion, generosity and wit with us as we worked with him over a period of some six years preparing, performing and recording his momentous cycle of ten Naxos quartets.
